Wayne D. King The best thing about being a writer is that it gives me the ability to vent about things that I care about and incentive to educate myself on the issues and background relating to what I am writing. I publish a column bi-weekly for the NH Center for Public Interest Journalism (indepthnh.org) titled "The View From Rattlesnake Ridge" in the column I make observations about life in rural New Hampshire and try to tie it in with important national and international issues. For the past six months I have been focusing a lot on the Future of work, the Gig Economy and especially the concept of a Universal Basic Income - though I have renamed it the American Social Dividend. The process of writing these has helped me to focus in on issues that will become various parts of a non fiction book that I am calling "Steady Hands and Open Hearts (working title) Renewing and Reinventing America in a Post-Trump Era . . . Common Sense for our Time."

The book is a "from the heart treatise" on how we can begin to heal the wounds inflicted upon us by our current President and making the case that this was a very long time in coming and that Trump is a symptom of the problems not the cause.

The process has also generated a lot of ideas for my next novel "The Columbian Reversal" featuring James Akwa LaCroix a member of the Iroquois Nation who teaches Anthropology at Southern New Hampshire University. He is a modern day Native American Harrison Ford who specializes in Native American anthropology and is often called upon to assess discoveries that involved First Nations burial sites, ancient villages and other historic sites. The book starts out with LaCroix making the discovery that the famed Indian Scout Robert Rogers is actually buried in a New Hampshire cemetary where his family placed his body in the dead of night after secretly bringing it back from England. Rogers was both reviled and admired by the Native American people of his time and left America after the Revolutionary war because he had ended up fighting and scouting for the British after a strange and unnecessary "dust up" with General George Washington.

Wayne D. King My most recent book is "Sacred Trust" (http://bit.ly/STPaper) it is a work of fiction based on a current controversy in my home state. A big battle is raging in my state to stop a private powerline. I have fantasies about joining a group of people using civil disobedience to stop the project. This gave me the chance to write a vicarious adventure and also to use the opportunity to paint the big picture of building a post-carbon world.

In the book I use a literary devise to cover tyhe more intellectual and historical aspects of the book, specifically I have a group of people known as Gazetteers who write in the style of the Federalist Paper essays and I have aa journalist who writes about the big picture issues. Where the group of citizens fighting the Powerline operate from their guts and hearts - and mostly undercover - the Gazetteers and the Journalist make the intellectual case more openly.
