Donald Jans Thank you Merry! Working on it now! Slow and steady. :)
Donald Jans Thanks Connie! Hope you enjoy it! Currently working on the second one! Although tough sometimes with two kids under 10! If you are ever interested in reading screenplays, I have a few on my website at www.donaldjans.com that are free downloads. Eventually those will be turned into novels. Cheers DJ
Donald Jans The old guy and the young guy from "Breaking Bad", Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. They absolutely need and care for each other, helping the other fill in the blind spots they can't see. A further reminder of the importance of inter-generational relationships, which are often lost or not celebrated in American culture.
Donald Jans Hi Val! Thanks for the question. As far as a sequel goes, I have quite a few other writing projects on my plate (and an audiobook for "Freaks") I'd like to get done first, but some time down the road, I'm sure Jack will rear his head up again and demand his story be told! :)
Donald Jans Hi Erin, other than a 20 page novel, "A Day in Chinatown", that I wrote in sixth grade, which I thought was awesome. No. However, I have written and pained on 3 screenplays prior to "Freaks I've Met", (which might explain the time gap) which you can download for free at my website at www.donaldjans.com if you're interested. They are a wee bit controversial, so I can understand Hollywood not being keen to plunk down 10+million dollars on them.. yet! My future plans are to turn them into novels, once I finish the current novel I'm been working on. Cheers DJ
Donald Jans Thank you Shannon! So glad you liked it! That makes me smile! And thanks for leaving reviews! :) I am currently working on my second novel, the working title is "Treasure Island", about a white trash couple from Missouri who head to Los Angeles and land on a reality game show, where they are the only couple on "treasure island" to find the 1.5 million dollar prize. (It has to one-up Survivor of course) Things will not go as planned for the couple. :)
Donald Jans Thanks for your question. The answer is yes! Eventually! I'm working on my second novel right now, so it would be after that ! Also, you can download the screenplays for free at my website. Donaldjans.com
Donald Jans Hi Brucie, thanks for your question. Sounds like your 5 year old is quite brilliant! "Freaks I've Met" was born from my 20 years working in the bond market. And while many occupations get their share of "Freaks", sub first tier investment houses, far away from Wall Street provided amazing fodder for this novel. Initially, 13 years ago when I began, it was going to be a tell-all memoir, but 10 pages into it, I realized how truly depressing that route was going to be, and thus, the fictional character "Jack" was born. Jack, through his 23-year-old eyes, and his smallish town roots, is able to view the world with a naivety an older person wouldn't dare, for fear of being labeled an "unfocused moron." Through his eyes, and his first disillusioning foray into the working world, he is able to blast stereotypes, racial and otherwise, that an older person, politically correct person wouldn't dare. It's too bad you didn't finish it to see Jack's character arc, but alas, this book, and its coarse language isn't for everyone. But Jack is true to how many a young American man thinks. Think of it as a self help book for the unemployed college grad kid on the couch, afraid of failure, who has an open bag of Cheetos lying next to him, who is wondering why his genitals are orange. And in the words of Phil the trader from the book, "love me, or hate me, but have an opinion about me." Thanks for your question!
Donald Jans Thanks for your question. Working on it now! Hopefully in the next couple months.
Donald Jans You get to write about what bothers you most, and at the end, it doesn't bother you any more!
Donald Jans Don't beat yourself up too much. Don't be afraid to put the book away for a while, even a few years. It isn't a contest, and if you're forcing the words on the page, it will probably suck. So, just wait until its ready! That said! don't be lazy! :)
Donald Jans Being a Chartered Financial Analyst and working in the bond business for over 20 years.
Donald Jans It builds up in me until I have no choice but to get it out!
Donald Jans A novel about a reality TV show that goes terribly awry.
