Harley Turner I am currently obsessed with finishing the Star Crossed series by Rachel Higginson. Currently on book 5 and it's a struggle to put it down! It's getting difficult to even find time for my own writing because this series is so amazing!
I also have a list of books that I nominated on Kindle Scout that I plan on getting through this summer. I need to find a way to better manage my time! It's so easy for me to pick up a book and not realize that five hours goes by!
Rachel Higginson also has a few other series that I want to check out, so I'm pretty sure she will be my go-to author for this summer!
Harley Turner Yes, I was working on book two before the first book was even released! As of right now, I have the first seven chapters finished, but I have hit a road block and haven't decided which way to go!
Harley Turner When I started Self Inflicted, I intended it to be a stand alone novel. It was inspired by a friend of mine who can't seem to realize that she is in an abusive relationship that she needs to escape.
Aurora's cutting issue is a problem that I personally suffered from for years.
After I finished Self Inflicted, I decided I wasn't finished with Aurora's story, so I wrote Scars Fade (which releases this Friday!), but the story still wasn't over. I am currently working on Reopening Old Wounds which I intend to be the final installment in the series.
Harley Turner Music. I believe that music can fix just about anything. If I can't find the words I'm looking for, I turn away from my book and turn my Pandora on. I have different playlists for different moods, but writers block is either my 90s Pop, Boy Band, or Metal channels. and it has to be LOUD!
Harley Turner Most of the books I write are inspired by something I have faced in real life. The First Love Series (Summer Love and Autumn Goodbye) was inspired by my first boyfriend, who tragically ended his own life.
Self Inflicted, the title I am working on now, is about a girl who cuts herself. Thankfully, I didn't hurt myself to the extent that Aurora did, but it is an important issue that many teens face today. She is also in an abusive relationship, which is inspired by my ex-husband.
From the Corner of Her Eye just makes a person think. Have you ever caught a glimpse of something, and then it was gone before you could focus on it? What if that was a ghost trying to tell you something? What if people who die can come back and help us figure out how they died?
Harley Turner I am currently working on another Young Adult fiction novel. The title is Self Inflicted. The main character, Aurora, struggles with cutting. She has cut herself for several years. She is also dating Erik, and he tends to be a bit on the abusive side. However, Aurora loves Erik and she feels that she deserves what happens to her.
Harley Turner My favorite thing about being a writer is that I get to escape into a world that I created. I can determine how everything happens, unlike in real life, where I'm stuck with what cards I've been dealt.
I love being able to create a character and watching them virtually take over my work. I don't think "what should I make (insert characters name here) do in this situation". Instead I ask myself, "What would (character) do in this situation."
I don't make characters do anything. In the process of writing, I create that character and somehow I just know how they would act.
