My mom and dad had six children, but my mother died when I was sixteen. My father remarried a widow with five kids ten months later. I was number ten out of eleven--funny thing... no one let me talk. Writing has always an escape for me. I think to this day I can express my thoughts on paper a lot easier than telling someone in person.

I just finished my second book, Rocks, Paper, Secrets... which will be released in the fall. My daughter is graduating from high school in two weeks so this summer I'll be focused on getting her ready for college.

The best advice I can give aspiring writers is never give up and to keep writing. Rejection is hard to swallow, I should know considering the amount of letters I received. Matter of fact, there were some agents and publishers that didn't even respond to my query letters but when you do get that contract with a publisher the feeling is so incredibly sweet. Just remember it only takes one person to believe in your work...

The best thing about being a writer is that my daughter looks at me differently. Most teenage kids are constantly pointing out your flaws and telling you what you aren't doing wrong. I'll never forget leaving a television interview and I had my daughter on the set with me. When we were leaving she put her arm around me and said, "Mom, I'm so proud of you."

Writer's block is a common problem for me. If I can write three full pages a day, I feel like I've accomplished a lot. However, if I can't finish a scene, I pull myself away by cleaning my house, listening to music or going for a run. Don't ask me why but it works every time.
