I don't get it often, thankfully. Normally I either go and write something else and wait for it to ease, or I go off and plot - if I'm stuck it's usually a plotting issue.

I enter flash fiction competitions and they have sparked the idea for my last three books. In this case, it was a picture of an isolated city, drawing in storm clouds. I wondered who would be using the storm and for what reason, and then it came together. Now, that city has gone and been replaced by one of my own creation, but the people who came alive in it have moved with the city.

I just write. I'm not a big believer in waiting for inspiration. Seems dicey if you want to be serious about it. So, I sit down and I write. Or I edit. But I don't wait for inspiration (although it's lovely when it strikes.)

I have two completed works that I'm trying to find homes for, and I've just started a new series. This one is gaslamp-ish fantasy, about a race of Storm mages, and I'm just past the 20k words stage, although it's all very rough. I also have a half-completed YA sci fi.
