Hi Ian, thanks for following me. When you write crime and thrillers do you find that you have sink into role and experience it to write the story? Heavy stuff. How do you deal with that without going crazy?
Ian Jackson Hi Juliette, thanks for the question...I write characters that are affected by the story line if that makes sense? I love to put my characters into situations where I know they will be deeply uncomfortable and then try to react on their behalf based on their particular psychological make-up. In that way, I as the writer insulate myself against the story becoming too personal...however, craziness is in-built!

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Ian Jackson Ideas are difficult to pin down - I write a plan for a book, then write the first chapter or two and then abandon the plan to inspiration! My books develop from the characters that I create....I think about how that particular character might react to a particular circumstance and the idea snowballs...

How do you get inspired to write?
Ian Jackson Truthfully, I write a great deal from the back benches in coffee shops...I love watching people interact - how they make an effort to offer the smallest touch or a knowing glance...or a full scale argument! People let their guard down in a coffee shop - I put it down to the abundance of sofas....

What are you currently working on?
Ian Jackson I have just submitted the complete manuscript for my second book to Percy Publishing for editorial review....very excited that my new book will be out in June this year!

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Ian Jackson Be yourself...writing courses, etc are brilliant - but they do tend to make writers 'sound' a bit samey...express yourself in the way you feel is right for you...hopefully readers will enjoy the freshness of your particular narrative..

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Ian Jackson I love setting my characters challenges that I know they will be unable to surmount....I love watching them wrestle with themselves (and me) to find a compromise...

How do you deal with writer’s block?
Ian Jackson I tend to think around my subject for hours before I begin to write and therefore suffer from 'thinker's block' rather than 'writer's block'...
