L.A. Story My most recently completed book, "Beyond Shammua," is about to be released. It is the third and final installation in The Gifted Trilogy. Obviously, the idea came from the first two books, but the original idea that began the trilogy was one of the nature of Good and Evil and God and Satan and the great spiritual war that takes place beneath the surface of our lives ... all the time, every day.
L.A. Story It begins with a vision which burrows down into my brain. It remains, like a squatter claiming residence, until I exorcise it by pulling it out and trapping it on the page.
L.A. Story Not nearly as awesome as YOU are, B.J. Hyman! I am a big fan of yours. :D
L.A. Story Currently, I am working on my outline for the second book in The Gifted Trilogy. It's called "Criers: Rise of the Prophets."
L.A. Story My best advise for aspiring writers is FINISH IT. I had several half-begun novels. You have to push yourself they way you would for a workout. I did not complete my first novel - "The Gifted: Adversaries & Healers"- until my sister challenged me during NANOWRIMO. She did it because she knew she would not finish it alone and I did it - at first - as a supportive act of indulging my little sister. However, it turns out to be the best thing for both of us. We pushed each other ... and we finished. We're doing it again this year for our second novels.
L.A. Story The best thing is sharing your world. In my case, being a writer was about sharing my stories. I want everyone I know to read it. That's reason I want an audience - I want to say, "Hey, ya'll. Isn't this cool? Can you BELIEVE what just happened?" I create these worlds for myself ... but it's more fun to walk around in those worlds holding hands with my audience.
L.A. Story I don't. Generally, I eat chocolate and get on Facebook until I am ashamed I am not writing. Then, I listen to music that puts me in "the zone" for writing. Seriously, the music part is real but the most important thing is to set aside that writing time and stick to it. Even if it's crap, just keep writing. The magic comes back. It just takes some work.
