I write stories that are personal to me in some way. For example, my first novel, "Number Eleven" is inspired by the story of how my parents met. The novel I am currently working on is based on the short stories I tell my son each night. Life is full of inspiration.

I am currently working on two books. One is a follow up story to Number Eleven. The other is a pirate adventure story co-authored by my son. He has very specific ideas about what we will be writing so it is refreshing to learn his preferences.

Living a double life. Well, that and being able to spend more time with my son.

I put the project aside for a few days and go on with life. After a few nights, the characters begin to speak to me again and then the words just flow!

The book was inspired by the story of how my parents met. The book is about 30% true in that the basic story is theirs. The descriptions and dialog is mine. I also added a bit more drama and suspense.

Write about something you are passionate about. You will be "living" with these characters for months or years, so you want to enjoy being in their world every day.
