David J. O'Brien The ideas usually come of their own accord, from various places. Some have come from reading other work and thinking of tangents from their worlds. Others have come from news stories. A few have come from just hard thinking and rejecting several ideas that didn't seem good enough.
David J. O'Brien I am working on the two sequels of Leaving the Pack, Silver Nights 2 and 3. I have the first drafts done and am rewriting this fall, to submit to my publisher early next year.
David J. O'Brien I got the idea for The Soul of Adam Short fifteen years ago in Ireland, near my house. I was standing at a junction much like the place described in the book, having paused my bike. I stopped because I was sure a car was coming down the street, but when I looked more carefully there was nothing. It was a very strange feeling.

I cycled on, wondering what had happened, and wondering what would happen if a ghost car “knocked you down.” Could the spirit of the vehicle and its driver interact with your own sprit, your soul?
David J. O'Brien Just keep going, write what you want, don't even think, much less worry, about markets and audiences and what's in fashion. Keep making your story better and keep looking for a publisher. It might take twenty years, like it did me, or it might take longer. Writing is for ever, though.
David J. O'Brien I have never had to, thankfully. Instead, I have to deal with time management - and procrastination, of course... which is not the same at all.
