I've always loved to contest. I think you need to find out if others outside your realm: family, writing group, etc. think you're a writer, too. Submit, submit, submit and don't be disappointed when it isn't picked up. Rewrite it, save it for later, don't throw it away. Just about everything major I've ever written has been published sooner or later.

I'm working on a time travel and I started another novel a few years ago. The novel is set in New York and in the deep south. It is different from anything I've written and I need to revisit it and find my muse.

I wrote an article on my daughter when she was a baby and the struggles she overcame. I submitted it to several magazines with no interest. I put the thought of writing away for twenty years. I started doing my mother's family's genealogy when I stumbled across a story that needed to be told. My first novel, Alvarado Gold, evolved from that story.

The Tempering Agent, released in February of this year, is the third in my trilogy. Since I also collect exotic gemstones, I used that interest to formulate the beginning paragraph of each chapter. The main character, Priscilla and her fiance find the breastplate of the high priest in a dig just outside of Cairo.
