Steve Peters Great question! I don't! I do a storyline first (this is a flexible outline) and tend to write in fall and winter, late night. I do not constrain myself with any parameters and if it doesn't, I walk away. Then later, I'll see/hear something that hits me and it's back to the man cave!
Steve Peters Other than being paid $12 for my autograph when I'm at a book signing, it is the feedback I get from Sandra fans. It gives me a great sense of accomplishment.
Steve Peters First, commit. Second, don't second guess yourself, write the whole story and finish it. You'll have plenty of time to separate the fly shit from the pepper. Last, you don't need to be a great writer- you need to be a great storyteller. Good luck!
