Kathy Damp For Waiting for Sparks, I was standing on a beach in Garden City, Utah. Bear Lake has a very vivid blue color that is unusual. Garden City is a small town. I thought how nice it would be to live in a small town again instead of a city. Then, as I often do, I thought, "What if coming back to the small town WASN'T what someone wanted to do?" And I was off.
Kathy Damp I consider the Holy Spirit to be my writing partner. When I read my books after they are published, there are parts I do not remember writing and I know the editor didn't change. My ideas are a lot wilder and more imaginative when we collaborate.
Kathy Damp A magical realism series for kids ages 8-12, another sweet romance, and an inspirational series with romantic elements (and a border collie).
Kathy Damp Finish. Finish it all the way through. Write forward, don't ever go back. If you do, you will never get past the first 10 pages or the first 50. Ask me how I know. (Refer to question #1 about permission to write a crappy, gappy first draft.)
Kathy Damp Making up stuff. Using my imagination. Writing a story that lets people know they are "more than they know" - a quote from Madeleine L'Engle.
Kathy Damp Hmmm. I don't get writer's block. I get promotion block, though. I'm always running several ideas through my head on new ideas, wilder ideas for the current story, and so on.

A couple of years ago, I began to give myself permission to write a "crappy, gappy" first draft of my stories. Boy, does it help.
