For Waiting for Sparks, I was standing on a beach in Garden City, Utah. Bear Lake has a very vivid blue color that is unusual. Garden City is a small town. I thought how nice it would be to live in a small town again instead of a city. Then, as I often do, I thought, "What if coming back to the small town WASN'T what someone wanted to do?" And I was off.

I consider the Holy Spirit to be my writing partner. When I read my books after they are published, there are parts I do not remember writing and I know the editor didn't change. My ideas are a lot wilder and more imaginative when we collaborate.

Hmmm. I don't get writer's block. I get promotion block, though. I'm always running several ideas through my head on new ideas, wilder ideas for the current story, and so on.
A couple of years ago, I began to give myself permission to write a "crappy, gappy" first draft of my stories. Boy, does it help.
