In a world dominated by technology and Artificial Intelligence, all the historians are rounded up and sent into exile by a regime that runs unchecked while the people are left to ponder their own historical aloofness as archives are shuttered, library shelves are cleared, and honest discussions in pubs are monitored. Simultaneously, government power brokers and partisan propagandists shamelessly prey upon the ignorance of the masses. At the end of the story, the historians are rescued by the living ghosts of John Lennon, George Harisson, and Jerry Garcia while Dead & Co. join forces with Elvis, Waylon and Willy, and Ludwig van Beethoven and Wolfie Mozart -- thus enabling the historians to reintroduce humanity to the starving masses in conjunction with the establishment of Starfleet (two sentences with a heavy dose of pop culture and pulp fiction).
