Being surprised and very pleased to have one of my history-based character's living 4th and 5th generation real-life relatives contact me and then to meet and become very good friends with them. They are related to Marguerite Wadin McKay McLoughlin, heroine of my Wilderness Wife book, and they have extensive family records. Meeting and knowing them is the most fun I've had in my writing career yet. And now I'm writing the sequel to that book tentatively named Wilderness Gained.

From growing up along the Columbia River, loving our small local library, but feeling sorry for residents along the river who had no libraries. As a kid, I told my librarian I wanted get a houseboat, convert it into a library, and float up and down the river taking books to people there. The story grew from there, especially after I learned that in WWII a Japanese I-25 submarine really did enter the Columbia River!
