Ariel Paiement Uh... Nope. I don't really write horror. Thriller-style stuff, sure. Horror stories? No.
Ariel Paiement This one is tough because I have so many worlds I've fallen in love with through my time reading. I guess if I had to pick, I'd probably want to visit Middle Earth. What would I do there? Learn Elvish, probably. And visit as many of the different places as I could to learn more about the history. Nerdy and boring stuff, am I right? Lol.
Ariel Paiement Too many of them to count for 2020! Right now, in my planned reading list, I have The United by James Quinlan Meservy, Zilferia by Katie Cherry, The King of Elfland's Daughter, The Dreaming Tree, and Voices by Le Guin lined up. But I'm sure I'll be adding to it.
Ariel Paiement I think Tolkien, Brandon Sanderson, and Orson Scott Card are the three writers who inspire me the most. Their work is something that I'll read over and over just because.
Ariel Paiement I think what draws me to my genre is the unlimited possibility it holds. Fantasy can have pretty much anything. If you can dream it, fantasy can have it. That's why I love it so much. It hold room for expansion and new ideas.
Ariel Paiement I don't mind answering your questions at all! That's why I decided to answer questions... To interact with curious readers.

This is a difficult question though. Hmm... As far as the books I have published go, I'd say In Darkness Lost is my best one. With books that are up on other writing sites for free, I think that maybe Between Gates is my best. It's hard to say because I keep improving and working to make everything better... But I feel like my writing really took off with Between Gates and In Darkness Lost, so that's why I say that I think they're my best accomplishments to date.
Ariel Paiement Another good question! At one point I thought about it, but having a career in just writing is a difficult pursuit and not to be taken lightly. I'm not sure that it would be so much a career as a complementary job or part of a job. I am a business major, and want to start my own business, so writing would be an integral part of it, and whatever I end up doing, I wouldn't completely drop writing fiction either. I hope that answers your question...
Ariel Paiement Hello, Shiloh! Thanks for asking...

I became a writer because I loved to read. I wanted to tell stories like so many others did in the books I loved most. I had so many tales I wanted to tell, so I started to write. It sort of took off from there. I spent years writing just for myself before I ever thought to share with people outside of my home. Now I've published my first two books and I'm an actual author. I'm very excited about it.
Ariel Paiement The idea for the book I just published (In Darkness Lost) came from some events that had happened in my life years before I started the book. My mother had brain surgery for an aneurysm, and it really affected me. I had decided to take a novel writing class around the time that I came up with the plot line for In Darkness Lost, and I started thinking about what I might want to write. Some of my own feelings and ideas around the time of my mom's surgery surfaced as I was reading through an old diary. I decided to try and write a book that was based on my experiences. When that turned out to be too difficult emotionally, I ended up changing the book's setting from reality to fantasy. That's how I came up with the idea for In Darkness Lost.
Ariel Paiement I am currently working on a fantasy novel about a race of angel-like beings. It focuses on a young woman who discovers that she is one of these otherworldly creatures. It also follows the young man who comes to help her discover who she really is.
Ariel Paiement I'm honestly not sure... I've been writing short stories and telling tales since I was a little kid. The last four years have been spent honing the skills that I've learned on the way. But I think maybe one of the things that inspired me to write was reading. The more I read, the more my own imagination started to kick in, and from there, I just had to get the words in my mind out. I wrote for just myself and my family for years before I discovered online writing communities like goodreads to help me share with those outside of my family. So yeah, I think reading was my first inspiration to try to give voice to my own stories and characters.
Ariel Paiement I think one of the best things about being a writer is the exhilaration of meeting your newest group of characters. Each of mine takes on a life all to themselves, and I love getting to know my characters and discovering the next turn in their lives along with them. There are lots of times where they surprise me. I think that I'm going to write something one way, and then their personality clashes with the idea, and something completely new develops as a result. There are lots of things I enjoy about writing, but meeting your characters is one of my favorite things about writing. The one other thing that is really great about writing is finding out that your writing is touching someone else's life and making it better, even it does that only through entertainment for a little while. Best feeling in the world, I think...
Ariel Paiement When it comes to writer's block, it can be tricky... Sometimes my usual tricks don't work. However, in general, I listen to music that goes with the mood of the chapter I'm trying to write. Sometimes that helps. Other things I'll often do are running, reading another book, editing, or really anything that gets me thinking and in the mood to work. My writer's block tends to come because I just feel too lazy to do anything, or I can't think of any good ideas. So a good run, a new book, or a hot shower can often get me thinking again and creating new ideas.
Ariel Paiement My advice to aspiring writers is to keep going. It isn't easy, and sometimes it can be pretty depressing when you get negative comments about your work. However, if you really enjoy writing and you're serious about it, then it's worth continuing.

So I guess the most important thing for all of you newer writers or aspiring writers is to keep learning more about writing and most of all, to keep writing. That's how you get better. You write, write, and keep on writing. The learning process never ends.
