The idea came to me in a very vivid dream - and I decided to work backwards from this event to see how it might have come about. I don't lack for ideas ... they crowd in and demand attention. Apart from my current Belleville family series, I have two other novels very much planned out. They all revolve around women's choices, I've decided.

It's hard to do it if you're not in the right mood. I need to be upbeat. There is no room for negative thoughts. Some days are diamonds; some days are dogs (apologies to dog lovers) but you know what I mean.

Because I'm writing fiction, the world of my characters is entirely mine to create, although I'm careful to make things sound real. It's such an engaging activity. I can sit in my home office and work away and it grows dark and I hardly realise it.
