Writing is the closest thing to imagination being made real that I can experience. I think the only comparable thing is engineering prototypes, which I imagine would have the same satisfaction or something akin to it. An idea. Musings. Then comes the work. Finally, a tangible reality that can be experienced and hopefully appreciated by others.

I’d like to visit Alice’s Wonderland, or some variation thereof. I’ve long felt that there is some other world only occasionally accessible, a reality that has in turn inspired Carroll, C. S. Lewis, Norton Juster, and countless others. There has to be something there, somewhere through a wardrobe, over a rainbow, or beyond one last bend in the road. I want to go there.

Dreams, always in dreams. Most often it’s daydreams, little stories and movies I make for myself in my head. Sometimes ideas come in actual dreams, the kernel of an idea that grows into a full novel. This was the case with ‘The Dark Child’. Or, out of the daydreams, the ones that are not overly self-indulgent, sometimes can grow into a story worth telling. This was the case with ‘The Reverie’.

I’m currently in the planning stages of Book 3 in my ‘Feasts for Beasts’ Series, which will be a different take on the Frankenstein monster.

This was a bad idea. I thought it would be funny to write a book by allowing Instagram to vote for plot points, including what title to start with. Since I had to come up with three titles, I wound up with ‘Air Force Submarine’, ‘Rewinder: Time Travel is all in your Head’, and ‘Werewolf in the Wrong Job’, which turned into my latest book, ‘The Meat of the Werewolf.’
