My initial idea was inspired by a dream I had many years ago. I write the best ones down, and start from there.

I have several hobbies that inspire me. I love cooking, and baking, the mixing of ingredients that can result in something sublime (or not). About twenty years ago I saw a book by Colette Peters with the most gorgeously decorated cakes I had ever seen and I got the cake-decorating bug. When I can't write, I go into my kitchen.

Currently, I'm creating another adventure for Victoria Barron. This time, she's in search of her roots, and returning to her ancestral home to investigate the claim that smuggling runs in her blood.

If writing will be your next career, invest in it as you would any other career. It takes time and patience, but I believe the end result is well worth it.

For me, it's a couple of things. I love the creativity and flexibility; watching the direction of a story change, it's exhilarating! The other wonderful thing about writing is that it removes the story from my head, which hopefully makes room for the next one.

When my brain ties itself in a knot, I do something else. Sometimes I plan a special dinner and walk to Whole Foods. Tables of fresh produce and a green smoothie seem to work wonders. Also reading Dan Brown, or Diana Gabaldon; they have such amazing bodies of work that I'm inspired to get back to work!
