Beth Miller I got the idea for The Good Neighbour (out in September 2015) from the local newpaper. I was reading an article about a woman who’d run lots of marathons. Her child was very ill, and she was raising money for the relevant charity. I think most people reading such an article would probably feel sorry for the mother and child, but my first thought was, hey, what if she was pretending, and her child wasn’t sick after all? Then I felt ashamed of myself and channelled the bad thought into a fictional story.
Beth Miller Two books: a non-fiction book about the Archers, which will come out in October 2015, and a third novel, called The Privacy Room, that will come out in who knows when.
Beth Miller Persevere. It's a boring answer, but it's the only possible one. It took me twelve years to write 'When We Were Sisters'. It occurred to me to give up about four million times, but sheer dogged stupidity kept me plugging away at it. If I'd given up at any of those four million points, it would never have been published.
