A.E. Hellstorm Did my dad really die from cancer or did the mafia kill him?
A.E. Hellstorm Well, this is a very interesting question. Before I got my second child, I didn't deal with the writer's block. I left the draft and didn't look at it for months and even years and it just frustrated me to the edge of tears. Now, I seem to have developed some kind of patience, (my mom would probably laugh if she read this), and the words just come to me. They fly around like butterflies and falling leaves, and so far I have been very lucky to not experience any kind of writer's block at all. I feel immensely blessed by that.
A.E. Hellstorm That you get to live the lives of your characters, and that you are following them on the path they're walking, and that they surprise you with their choices which usually takes the book in a totally different direction than you first had planned. That happens a lot to me, and I'm always overwhelmed over how strong will of their own my characters have. It's truly an amazing and humbling experience.
A.E. Hellstorm Don't give up. If this is what you really want to do, don't give up. You probably have to practice a lot when it comes to language, before you find a language that talks to you, that becomes a part of you, but when you do, it's such a great reward. Also, if your friends and family are interested in what you're writing, let them read your drafts and come with honest critique. Honest critique is the most important part of your writing. Don't be afraid of it, see it as the best friend you can ever have.
A.E. Hellstorm I'm working on a sequel to 'In the Hands of the Unknown', called 'Lost'. It will be a totally different kind of horror story than Ithotu, with a much slower pacing. The story in Ithotu took place over only a few days, but 'Lost' takes place over at least a couple of months.
I'm also working on a children's story set in a fantasy/historical milieu, with my daughter as the brave main character.
A.E. Hellstorm Mostly by images or sounds or a certain atmosphere. I'm not really sure how they 'click', but suddenly a story is there in my mind and I don't get any peace until it is written down.
A.E. Hellstorm I'm working on two different books right now, a sequel to 'In the Hands of the Unknown', and a children's story.
Ever since I finished Ithotu, I've known that I wanted to write a sequel, and one day the first scene popped up in my head. It was just an image of two people sitting in a sofa watching TV, and now, three weeks later, I've written so much that I didn't even know wanted to be told.
The children's story has brewed in my mind for four years. I told it to my daughter when she was two years old and we were waiting for the bus. She was so bored and just wanted to run around, so to hinder her from rushing out in the street, I told her this story. She fell in love with it and I've been telling it to her over and over again.
