Liza Dora I am currently working on preorders for my second book, People Aren't Socks. PAS follows a young girl as she searches for her place in the world and discovers what really makes a family.
Liza Dora I wrote the book, Is Lena Pretty?, after my husband and I ran into a fan at the grocery store. (I don’t currently have any fans because I’m self-published and my marketing budget could barely buy you dinner at Popeyes. He has fans because he used to be a professional basketball player overseas and made the rounds on ESPN during his college career.) The visit culminated in the fan asking my husband if he wished our 3 month old daughter was a girl.

I was absolutely floored. I spluttered and waddled about (I hadn’t lost the pregnancy weight yet (or now, either, actually)) angry for days. Over the next few months, I began opening my eyes to the world my daughter was growing up in. A world where she would be told the most important thing about her is how she looks. A world that just assumed her father would rather have a boy. I promised myself my daughter would know she was so much more than a pretty face — because I would spend my life teaching her.

A year after that promise, I was hit with some scary words like “mortality rate” and “possibility of metastasis.” My mind snapped back to attention. I’d made a lifelong promise to show my daughter what a valuable human being she was, and lifelong didn’t necessarily mean long-life anymore.

So, I wrote her a book.
