A flood of ideas rummaged through my mind but what I realized was, as a writer, the idea you begin with is not the idea you end with. The story takes a life and path of its own. Mental illness is a key part of our society now and we as citizens take it for granted. Some pretend that phrase is non-existent, but unfortunately it is present and we need to pay more attention to it. There are many signs we ignore when our loved ones show signs of depression and anxiety. This book Sea of Scars is based on an army returnee who suffered from PTSD due to the violence he was exposed to on his tours. Dishonorably discharged from the Marines he returned home and his mental illness followed him. He battered and ill-treated not just his wife but any soul that was unfortunate to cross his path. The book follows his journey through his fight and hardship and the second chances life presented him.

I read a lot. I’m basically working all the time. If I’m not reading, I’m writing. I pay close attention to dialogues, take note of the crafty storytelling procedures, and apply them to my own work.

Working on two new novels now. Both genres are Mystery/Suspense. I refer to myself as the eclectic writer. Won’t be marked in one defined box.

It’s a lengthy, sensitive and tiring journey. There will be many moments you’ll doubt yourself, many moments you’ll convince yourself you are not good enough, who are you kidding… NEVER give in to those destructive thoughts. Keep writing and keep reading. The more you do it the better you become.

I delight in the power of shaping life’s events and occurrences and being in total control of the fate of each character I create is inspiring.

I keep writing. The more I write the more I learn the better I get.
