Hope Toler Dougherty I just sit at my laptop and try to do what I think I'm supposed to do. Sometimes a new location (beautiful scenery) helps me write faster than I normally do.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Hope Toler Dougherty Having ideas pop into my head and then seeing where those ideas go. I love trying to find the perfect word. I love meeting new characters. I love telling stories that touch people.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Hope Toler Dougherty Mars...With Venus Rising is supposed to be released at the end of August. I used to live near Mars, Pennsylvania and thought a story set there might have lots of quirky characters and happenings. It's also close to PIttsburgh, so the characters could have fun in the big city, too. I started with the location for that story.

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Hope Toler Dougherty Pray. Go do something physical to get my mind off the story. Pray. Then come back and sit (or stand) at the laptop until words come or it's dinnertime--whichever comes first.
