I just finished "Under the Silk Hibiscus," an excellent read by Alice J. Wisler. Right now I'm working on "On Hitler's Mountain," a memoir of a child growing up in Nazi Germany. Very good so far! I'm just about finished Willow Feller's "Piety, Pride and a cosy of Cures," and I relate to her in many ways. Next will be "The Mandibles" which our book club will be discussing. I got a Kindle for my birthday and have "Bishop's War" and "Past Encounters" loaded and hope to get to those as well. If there is time, one of Marie Ellen Wiseman's later books will be next.

Writing for a profession means I can go to work in my pajamas. Being an author has meant meeting and reconnecting with lots of interesting people, including friends I hadn't seen for years and friends I hadn't met yet.

I recognize that writing is brain work and that just like my body, my brain gets tired. Writer's block is usually just a reminder that my brain is tired and maybe I need to go do the dishes or look at the trees for a while.

I usually get inspired to write by trying to go to sleep!
Real life stories are the most inspirational to write. Like dreams, they take on a life of their own in that realm between truth and fiction.

Over the years I heard snippets of family stories, but as an adult I wanted to know what I was hearing fit into history, as I understood it. Researching this era and piecing it together for my novel "Threaten to Undo Us," was like a jigsaw puzzle.

Maybe a sequel...
