Woody Allen said it best when he said that ‘Eighty percent of success is showing up’. Start showing up!
Writing is like running an ultramarathon - it's not about your muscles, how good your trainers are, or what you eat. Ultimately, it's a mind game. It's how you cope with the blisters on your blisters, the twisted ankle, and all the other 'setbacks' that you have to re-train your brain into viewing as 'challenges' and 'opportunities'.
I'd also recommend showing your writing to a professional manuscript assessment service for constructive feedback. With the right advice and nurturing, they can provide clarity and direction.
It can be long, lonely and arduous path but being a writer isn’t really a choice. It’s just something you do. Always. You write because you can't not. At least I do...

They say necessity is the mother of invention, and while I love dystopian fantasy, I really wanted to read an alternative to that trend. I wanted a book that had sassy, fun, quirky characters who were reflective of modern Australia’s diversity; a book that was smart and had attitude but didn't take itself too seriously; a book that would make my daughters feel good about themselves and proud of their unique heritage... so I wrote "Alana."

(view spoiler)[Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction and I like to collect newspaper clippings and news items from the radio which inspires some of the comedic moments in the story. For example, two British tourists DID get drunk and kidnap a penguin from a zoo, and a convenience store heist WAS foiled when the shopkeeper didn’t understand English. I then embellish and exaggerate the details to make it even more absurd and, hopefully, funnier. (hide spoiler)]
