Raymond Johnson I walk away from it and do something completely different. Usually something physical like working on projects around the house or going for a walk or run.
Raymond Johnson I think one of the best things about being a writer is when you realize that people are actually reading what you are writing. Even bad reviews or criticism means that someone took the time to read what you have written and that what you wrote might actually matter.
Raymond Johnson Write! Write! Write! I feel like writing is extremely therapeutic and I write for the fun of it and also for the discovery. When you write historic non-fiction and are digging for previously undiscovered material it is sort of like being a modern day Indiana Jones! Write because you love it not with the object of making money or you will find yourself frustrated and disappointed!
Raymond Johnson I am currently working on my first collaborative effort with Stephanie Malcom. I really can't say too much about what it is about yet but lets just say it is more stranger history!
Raymond Johnson Inspiration really comes from all types of different sources. Some of my favorite sources are when I will be sitting at a red light and my mind wanders and I think, "I wonder if...?" Then I research the topic and many times find things I didn't expect to find!
Raymond Johnson I love Chicago history and especially the stranger side of that history. I have been a historical researcher long before I was a police officer and love sharing new discoveries with people. I basically took different aspects of Chicago history that I felt strongly about and compiled a few of the stories which contain mostly new discoveries. I also have a facebook group dedicated to Chicago History - The Stranger Side
