Troy Parfitt I haven't experienced writer's block yet. In fact, I've got ideas for several books. It's just a matter of finding the time to write them.
Troy Parfitt There's no dress code. Slippers, T-shirts with holes... Who will know the difference?
Troy Parfitt You'll always be learning and probably never satisfied with what you produce. No one's ever a master. Even Shakespeare had weak plays. Beyond that, the usual: read good stuff and write something that matters.
Troy Parfitt A novel. I've written three travel pieces and think I've sufficiently cut my teeth on politics, history, and anthropology to have a crack at literature. Beyond that, I can't give details. It's, as ever, a controversial piece, so I might publish under a pseudonym.
Troy Parfitt I mentally plan what I want to write and then allot time to write. Also, reading gets me in the mood for writing. I can do it for fairly long stretches. I usually don't get bored.
Troy Parfitt I love travel literature but couldn't find any good travel literature about Canada except an old book by Jan Morris. However, even that was really gushing. I thought I'd like to write a travel piece about Canada that was more critical and written by a Canadian (Morris is Welsh). Also, I'd been out of Canada for more than a decade and knew I had a completely different perspective from everyone else.
