Geri Payawal Shepard The idea for this book came about very easily because it is based on my son's and my experiences. When my son finished his treatment for leukemia after three and a half long years, I sent out an e-mail to all of our family and friends announcing this amazing news. I wrote about our journey, I described all the emotions I felt as my son got his last dose of chemo, and I thanked everyone who supported us and loved us through everything. As you can imagine, the responses I received were full of jubilance. In several of those responses, I was told that I should consider writing something. It was already in my mind to do just that. The encouraging comments I got just reinforced my decision to write about this incredible journey that my family and I took.

It was unimaginable that my son and I were cancer patients at the same time. As emotional as it was to reflect back on some of those days, I wrote this book to provide some strength, support, and comfort to other families and other women going through what we went through. This book is also for those who have not experienced cancer, to understand what it's like for those that have been through it.

I am so incredibly thankful that my son and I finished our treatments in 2012 and are Survivors. It is with pride that I share our story.
