Michael F. Haspil I'm glad you liked it. I'm in negotiations with the publisher for the other books in the series so I can't give you a definitive answer on a specific timeframe. Sorry.
Michael F. Haspil Thank you very much! I loved writing them. Graveyard Shift is part of a series. But my answer has to be a little complicated. They way I would like things, Graveyard Shift is actually sort of the "middle book" in the series. The other stories range both before and after the events in Graveyard Shift.
Michael F. Haspil For Graveyard Shift, this will sound cliche, but I actually had a dream about it. I keep a journal near my bed and I woke up and all I could remember to write down was the gist of the world and the words, "I used to kill vampires for the NSA, now I work vice."

And that was that!
Michael F. Haspil Usually, when listening to music, I'll come up with a scene, it might not even be a part of the plot or the current story I'm working on. Then I'm psyched up to write it out and see what's happening.

I've been known to listen to the same piece of music twenty or more times in a row while hashing out a scene on the page.
Michael F. Haspil I'm currently working on a fun fantastical story that blends multiple genres and geek and gamer culture. I'm having an absolute blast writing it and it has done very well with alpha readers.
Michael F. Haspil The number one piece of advice I can recommend is that they attend conferences. A writer's conference is practically getting a college-level course over the length of a weekend. On top of that, you can make valuable acquaintances, and meet w/ agents and editors face to face.
Michael F. Haspil Being able to indulge in my fantasies and share them with others. I can lose myself and be lost in the creative process. Not all of it is easy or fun, but figuring out how a plot or character motivations are going to come together and then having things work out in a clever way is greatly rewarding.
Michael F. Haspil I generally don't get writer's block. When I run into some place where I get stuck, I go ahead and generate original prompts using some gaming tools. 99 Chances and Storyforge or FATE dice and then I try to kick start the muse by writing 2-3 paragraphs on that.

The larger block I have isn't one of creativity but of finding time to actually write. It seems like I'm always working three jobs, not including being an author. I dream of a fantastical time when I will only have to work as an author, but in the meantime, I cut out all television.
Michael F. Haspil Ah. A ton. I have a long list which you can see because I tend to read multiple books at a time. But foremost I have Marc Graham's "Of Ashes and Dust" and Betsy Dornbusch's "Enemy". Not to mention all this other stuff I'm doing for research on upcoming projects.
