Read all you can, join a local writers group, join an online writers association like Romance Writers of Australia. Joining an association gives you so much access to areas you may never have known to exist.
Also, grow a thick skin. People, other writers and readers, may be critical of your work, and you have to be able to smile nicely while someone takes your new creation apart.

If I have writers block on one story, I'll often swap to another that may be in the works. Or, I'll write a quick synopsis of a new story that won't leave my heads.
