Eugénie Danglars and Louise D'Armilly, from The Count of Monte Cristo.
Eugénie is such a great character I wrote fan-fic giving them a little extra adventure (Reunion, can be found in my short story collection). Since I haven't done the same for any other fictional couple, I guess that has to be my answer.
Honourable mentions to Ishmael and Queequeg from Moby Dick, and Benedick and Beatrice from Much Ado About Nothing.

I'm not an expert. So instead of listening to me, go and listen to all the Writing Excuses podcasts, and then read every bit of advice you can find from the writers you admire.
All I can offer is: write the story you want to tell, and then rewrite it until it flows. You can't guarantee anyone will like the story, but at least keep your prose out of the reader's way.
