Eugénie is such a great character I wrote fan-fic giving them a little extra adventure (Reunion, can be found in my short story collection). Since I haven't done the same for any other fictional couple, I guess that has to be my answer.

All I can offer is: write the story you want to tell, and then rewrite it until it flows. You can't guarantee anyone will like the story, but at least keep your prose out of the reader's way.
