Baird Wells WRITE. Write and write, and read in between. Read in and out of your genre. Read old stuff to learn timeless rules and new stuff to see how other authors are playing with the craft. And don't try to publish your first draft the second you type 'The End'. I know you want to; you're in love and you've made something incredible and you're certain others will be in love, too. And they will, but it's not ready yet. Let it ripen. Polish it and tweak it. Put it away for a couple of weeks and read something, and then take it out and make it even more beautiful.
Actively seek feedback at every opportunity, and glean anything useful from it. And say 'thank you', even when you feel like crying and burning your manuscript, because even when criticism hurts, it helps.

Baird Wells Glass Apple is coming up, hopefully in June!
