Great question. One you would think I'd have a ready answer, but alas, I don't! LOL. The reason is my reply kinda depends on where my head is at. I certainly have a type of couple I'm drawn to. It's usually one where there are two defiant and strong characters whose one (or primary) vulnerability is their love for the other. I love the conflict that brings to the characters in terms of how they discover aspects about themselves - namely how to manage their inability to control/dominate things like they always do and how they learn that to be in love means giving up that control, to some extent.
I suppose, bearing that answer in mind, the couples of today that I love are the 'Anastasias and Christian Greys' of fiction romance, but I have a deeper appreciation for couples like those written by authors like Roni Loren and Sylvia Day.
I have other favourite fictional couples, but I warn you, they tend to be a little twisted!
For example, I did my undergraduate degree in Spanish, so I studied a lot of Spanish language literature and there was a psychological novel called El Túnel that, to this day, I absolutely love. (I still have a university copy of the novel on my shelf, in fact). I won't ruin the ending for you, but it was bad. *cringe* However, leading up to the end, I was fascinated by the male protagonist's love/infatuation for the object of his affection. I guess in that case it wasn't so much the 'love' the male character had for the female character, but the journey he went through - how tormented and changed he became - all in the name of his 'love' for the woman.
What can I say? I like my couples messed up, vulnerable and defiantly strong. LOL

I wish I had a more articulate and profound answer, but the first line of the book "I am a queen" simply popped into my head. I knew I didn't want to do historical romance, so I set the story in the future where I could develop my own world or worlds in the case. I have to admit I didn't anticipate my first romance novel would be futuristic, but I am so glad it was! Setting AWAKENING in the future opened up a number of provocative opportunities for my female lead's storyline.

Three places: 1. Music 2. Music ... and reading other amazing authors in and outside my genre.
... Oh and did I mention music? ;)

It's easy to procrastinate with everything life throws at us, but don't you do it! Keep your book moving no matter what.
Remember why you wanted to write in the first place - a favourite author, a good book, a compulsion to share a story - and use that to motivate you to keep your head down and get that book done!

Book Two in Kira's Story, the title is yet to be determined. It's the follow-up to my first novel, AWAKENING.

It has to be knowing that people are reading and enjoying my stories!

I write anyway. Even if I feel like I'm not hitting the right notes for the dialogue or narrative, I keep going. I find the rhythm comes soon back soon enough.
