I think there are some genres where a writer might want to keep their identity hidden. Also, maybe if a writer writes in more than one genre, they can use pseudonyms to let the reader know what type of book they are writing. It sure worked for J.K Rowling. For me, I don't think there is a benefit yet. Thanks for asking.
