That's a tough one.
I think it's a toss up between seeing my creations and words in print and brought to life, and knowing that there are people out there that I don't even know who are reading those words and possibly falling in love with my characters.
The day someone comes to me to tell me how much my book means to them, if that day ever comes, then THAT will be the best thing about being a writer.
That's what I strive for, for my words to mean something to the people who read them.

Oh, wow. I'm not sure I can really answer this as just a few months ago, I was seeking answers to this very question myself.
The advice I give to my fellow writer friends, though, is simply to keep writing. Any chance you get, any moment inspiration hits you, write.
And make sure the story you write is one you love, and one you want to read.
I would also suggest investing in a thesaurus, but don't rely on it too much. You don't want your book to end up sounding like that letter Joey Tribiani wrote in that one episode of Friends.

This answer contains spoilers…
(view spoiler)[Timeless Rose was initially inspired by a dream. (Yes, I know, cheesy and a bit cliche.) But a lot of the elements in the story were later inspired by some of my closest friends, some personal experiences of my own, and a lot of research on angels. One of my main literary resources for ideas and inspiration was Fallen Angels and the Origins of Evil by Elizabeth Clare Prophet. (hide spoiler)]

A lot of times, I can't beat writer's block, and it's the worst. But sometimes, if I'm not already too frustrated, I'll look at a list of writing prompts online somewhere and just run with one. Even if it ends up being completely unusable, sometimes, a lot of times, it helps me get out of a funk.

Usually I find my inspiration in one of two ways. Either I find just the right music to get myself pumped and inspired, or ideas just come to me out of seemingly nowhere. I'm not always able to run with those random ideas but at least they help me get going.
If all else fails, I grab a book off my shelf, read for a while, and hope it puts me in the mood to write.
