K.J. Chapman This is like asking me to pick a favourite child. Aside from my own characters, I'd pick Jane Eyre. It is my favourite book, and I feel Jane is a revolutionary character. She challenged gender restraints, and despite her mistreatment in life, she had a strong moral compass. There is something inspiring and real in seeing a reserved character not shy away from love, friendship, and knowing her own mind. Strong, female characters don't just have to be wielding swords or proving points.
K.J. Chapman I don't tend to look backward in my writing. Growing in my writing ability is a process that includes moments I might look back on and say, 'I wish I did that differently'. However, those moments make me the writer I am today.
K.J. Chapman My love of science fiction and urban fantasy is the driving force behind EVO Nation. My dreams, music tastes, life experiences, and so on, all get thrown into the mix. I think many factors make for an intriguing story.
K.J. Chapman Inspiration can come from anywhere- music, nature, dreams, but even when I'm not inspired I still write. It's a part of me and I find it extremely therapeutic.
K.J. Chapman I am currently working on book two in the EVO Nation series: EVO Shift.
K.J. Chapman My advice, and this is advice that I should have paid heed to long ago, is to finish the first draft without editing. Editing should wait until you have you story written. Editing can impede creativity.
K.J. Chapman What beats creating new worlds and characters from nothing?
K.J. Chapman I take a break and do something different because inspiration usually comes from the strangest of places.
