Ken McConnell Getting to share the stories in your head.
Ken McConnell Write as much as you can. Take seminars and classes at writer's conferences and read books on writing. Then write more. There is no substitute for just writing. Never forget to give back to other up and comer writers. Share your writing knowledge freely.
Ken McConnell My current novel is a Military Sci-Fi novel about a small warship, a corvette, sent to investigate the disappearance of an exploration vessel. It's set before the events in the Star Saga novels and will hopefully be a gateway story to that series.

The story was inspired by the Allied corvette escorts in the North Atlantic during WWII. But it's also a first contact story that quickly tasks the crew with getting themselves out of danger.
Ken McConnell True writers don't wait for the stars to align for inspiration. They amp up on caffeine and go to work. I write just about every day during my lunch hour. Sometimes I get a few hundred words, sometimes a thousand or more. But every day I write something. I usually can get two books written a year this way. Once you put your butt in the chair and start typing, art happens.
Ken McConnell My current release is The Rising, Book 2 of the Star Saga. The idea for the story came about when I wondered what would happen if a central android character suffered from a traumatic disorder that was similar to the PTSD that my heroine was dealing with. The sentient android malfunctions and winds up blowing itself up, killing the President of the Alliance. The only one who could have stopped this from happening was the President's aide and she is also a sentient android.

This sets into motion a story about the androids rising up and confronting their human creators. But unlike Terminator and many other such stories, things don't end up as you would expect.
