Wendy Goult Good question. Now where do I start? There's my gt grandmother's uncle Tom who founded the Farrow bank, the demise of which is written into Bank of England archives. It was a subject never spoken about but he did 7 year hard labour.
Then there was my 5 times gt. grandmother who followed her daughters out to America. by ship, river steamer, railway and waggon train. She's buried in alt Lake City. Lucky for me her son stayed behind.
Then there is my 7 times gt. grandmother who was the illegitimate daughter of Margaret Hanworth and William Copinger Pleys. He's a bit of a mystery but provided for Margaret and all their children. Both Elizabeth and Mary married well. Mary to a future mayor of Norwich and Elizabeth to Robert Tibenham a wealthy farmer. They gave their childen middle names that were family surnames so the one I am descended from is William Gurney Tibenham. His daughter is Suzanna Doughton Tibenham and my gt. gt grandma is Martha Cocksedge Robinson. These middle names have proved totally mysterious but I'd love to know the connection.
Wendy Goult Hi Pamela. email is fine by me. . I really should post more poems but just need to get around to it.
Should you read my first book first? That;s entirely up to you. |Personally I think I have learned a lot since then and writing has improved over time and with practice. I thoroughly enjoyed writing A Tangled Web - there are songs in that story some of which have been put to music and can be heard on my website. I think Chain Reaction is only available as an ebook now but I may be wrong. Let me know what you decide and what you think. I;d be thrilled if you found it possible to recommend one of them.
Wendy Goult Hello Pamela. I too write poetry and have self published one book of poetry so far although I have enough for several other books - just haven't got around to collating the material. I am trying to grow my Goodreads profile of followers and friends. You are a kindred spirit and that is why I asked to become your friend. It sometimes helps to talk with others who understand and with similar mind-set. I hope that answers your question and that you feel able to become a friend.
Wendy Goult There is no short answer to that question. It came as a surprise to me that I could write fiction at all but having come to the end of a novel sized story (over 40,000 words) I didn't know if it was good, bad or indifferent. The logical thing was to put it before publishers and see what the feedback was. I went on line and found a publisher that was accepting submissions and who was in my area i.e. Cambridge. Submitted it and crossed my finigers thinking I'd get lots of rejections but within 2 weeks they came back to me asking to read the whole thing. Within 8 weeks I was offered a contract which was too good to dismiss. On publication they informed me they had made it book of the month. That book was Chain Reaction. They are still my publishers and my experience with them has been nothing but positive. They have been supportive and encouraging. I hope this helps.
Wendy Goult I don't. If the answers doesn't come immediately its a case of waiting and being patient. No good to force something because it won't come out right and will have to be re-written. Patience is the key - where's the rush?
Wendy Goult The ability to create characters and worlds outside of your daily routine, and the thrill of seeing them come to life.
Wendy Goult Keep trying, never give up. Writing is in the blood, it's what drives you, so keep going.
Wendy Goult At the moment I am working on a sequel to Chasing Shdows and trying out some short stories
Wendy Goult Good question. Inspiration comes from somewhere within. I have no idea how it works. The stories are just sitting there waiting to happen and when they are ready to be told, they pop into my mind.
Wendy Goult I woke up one morning with a scene in my head and it sort of evolved from theere.
