Stephen H. Provost I don't believe in writer's block any more than I believe that Elvis is still alive and drinking martinis with Jim Morrison on some beach in the Bahamas.

Writer's block is something writers conjure up because they don't feel like writing or don't think they have any good ideas. If you don't feel like writing, don't write. If you don't have any good ideas, find some. Go for a walk. Read a book. Watch a movie. There's plenty of inspiration to be had.

If you're insecure about yourself as a writer, that's not writer's block, it's insecurity. You're looking at the result (or a result you fear) rather than enjoying the process. A lot of people say writing is hard, and it can be. But if you don't think it's fun, why bother? If you feel challenged, that's a good sign. No one ever became any good at anything without accepting a challenge.

Challenges lead to adventure, and there's no better inspiration for a writer than a sizzling adventure. Stop worrying so much about whether people will respond well to your writing. The important thing is this: It responds to you. So buckle your seat belt, step on that mental accelerator and enjoy the ride. Writer's block be damned.
