I was following this story in real time. I first met the main subjects of the book in late 2010 and they became sources for me, as I wrote about the foreclosure fraud scandal for a website named Firedoglake. As I got to know them, I saw how their story and their sacrifices deserved a long-form treatment.

Fortunately I have multiple deadlines a week and writing it my profession, so I can't afford writer's block! It's amazing how the desire to pay bills can break through things like this.
