Sorry to repeat myself, but this is a mantra of mine. If I get stuck, I take a break, cuppa tea or coffee, read a bit, maybe watch a bit of TV, then get straight back on it.
David Doyle My bad side comes out through my bad characters, and I can't be blamed. I can say things I wouldn't normally say, and it's not me, it's the character.

I don't want to repeat myself, but the above is so important. A lecturer once said to me, "The more I read, the better I write, the better I write, the better I read..."

Don't be too downhearted when rejected; don't be too proud of an achievement; keep writing... every day... even if you have nothing to write for, write for yourself, to master your craft.

My first break was a script for a web-series. After that, I was hooked.

Write every day. Read every day. Explore every day. I write about 2000 words every day, regardless of the quality. And I read On Writing by Stephen King.

I had lots of ideas, but couldn't get the format right in my head. One of my favourite reads, Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha, by Roddy Doyle, inspired me for the style. Then I read The C-Word, by Lisa Lynch, and I knew how I was going to write The Big 'C'' — a combination of the two, fused with my own story... with a twist.
