Usually by a deeply emotional experience from my past, and by other people and their creativity. Other people inspire me greatly.

A novel-ish. I can't talk about big writing projects because it causes me anxiety. And fuels the flames of doubt about an unfinished piece.

1. Write, write, and write some more. Practice makes perfect.
2. If you can, try and only write for you and no one else, especially if you want to stay fond of yourself and your integrity as a writer.
3. Get ready to be rejected so many times that "not for me" has the same affect as a gust of wind on a breezy day. Yes, it will hurt the first few hundred times, but after a while it will only make you stronger, and more motivated to be the best version of yourself that you could possibly be.

The instant money you make? Ha, I jest, there's rarely any money in it.
In all seriousness, it's being able to get completely lost in your own imagination, and somehow having the ability to create an entirely new world with your brain, a pen and some paper. And having someone read it and actually relate to it - that makes it all feel worth it.

I tend to step away from something for a while, and procrastinate sometimes to the point of no return. Then after a week of not working on that particular writing project, I remember it again and find I have a little more to say. Also long walks and working on something else that doesn't require much thought. That seems to work.
