Currently I'm listening to the Wings of Fire series with my kids and trying to reread my favourite Jane Austen novels (working on Emma at the moment). I'd also like to read Flannery O'Connor's novel The Violent Bear It Away.

I'd go to J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle Earth and I'd want a horse so I could visit it all. I would love to spend time with the hobbits and the elves and the Rohan.
A second choice would be to visit Pyhrria from Tui T. Sutherland's Wings of Fire series, but there I'd be considered a "scavenger" and might get eaten by a dragon, so Tolkien's Middle Earth seems a bit safer.

Exercise or other creative pursuits! I love going for a bike ride or a swim while thinking about my protagonist's problems. Something about the wind or the water in my ears, and pushing myself physically, usually helps me come home with a better idea about what my protagonist needs to do. I also like to bake or clean or be creative and organized in other ways, as that also seems to help me overcome creative or organization problems with my book.

Talking to all the people in my head. :) And constantly having a way to entertain myself when nothing else is happening. We recently went on a road trip and I spent quite a few hours watching the road go past while I wandered through the fictional world in my head... :)

Read. Read everything. Read books by new (debut) authors. Read books that win awards. Read books in the genre you want to write for. Read books in a new genre. Think about the books you're reading. And keep reading. :)

Right now, I'm mostly writing for my blog, The Koala Mom. I post daily about motherhood, homeschooling, books, and more. In my head, I'm working on a young adult fantasy series that I'd love to finish off and get published. :)

A friend sent me an email saying that a friend of hers was working on a book project for a course she was taking. I was interested in the idea of an anthology for moms, so I combed through my files looking for some appropriate material to submit. Later, after I'd met another of the authors and chatted with her more about the theme of the book, I wrote a longer essay about my experience as a mom and accepting my role as mother.
