I suppose "writing" is too obvious an answer, but I wouldn't write if it weren't fun for me. Yes, there's something wonderful about finishing something, but a project becomes such a huge part of your life while you're in it that it feels a little empty once it's finished. But when I'm in the deep end of it, working out who does what and why and how, and what works and what doesn't, and having those great moments where it all suddenly comes together and I can see where I'm going again--that's where the magic lives for me.

Right now, I'm working on a Victorian time travel novel. Sort of skirting the fine edge of Steampunk without actually crossing it (not an intentional thing--just how it's worked out!). I'm having a lot of fun with it, but it takes a lot more research than THE SILVER CHILD did.
