Sarah McKnight Currently working on the fourth in my series of companion novels that people have dubbed "The Basement Gang." (Love that!) This one follows Benji, the glue that holds everyone together in all the books so far, but he may not be exactly who he appears to be through the other characters' eyes. His book takes place at the same time as Life, Love, and Lipstick: Charlie's Story (already published!) and I'm having a blast writing out some of the events from Charlie's book from Benji's perspective.
Sarah McKnight Write. Seriously, that's it. Don't worry if it's "good" or "bad." Just get the words out. Also read. A lot. Experiment with styles until you find your own voice. It may take a while, but it's worth it.
Sarah McKnight I love being able to create my own characters, situations, and worlds. It's so fun to have this creative outlet, and it's a bonus that others have enjoyed reading what I come up with as well.
Sarah McKnight Part of me wants to just sit down and force the words out, but I know that never works. When writing starts to feel like pulling teeth, I close out the document and walk away from the project. I do other things like play games or watch TV, and the writer's block tends to go away after a day or two.
Sarah McKnight Recently, my family came across a letter my grandfather had written to my grandmother while he was overseas during WWII. We thought we had all the letters, but this is one we had never seen before. In it, my grandfather mentioned being a suspect in a murder case in a small Illinois town he had never been to before. He was in France at the time, and it seemed someone had used his military ID or something along those lines in an attempt to frame him. He didn't provide much else in the letter, and we tried Googling what we knew, but the details were too vague. Unfortunately, both of my grandparents have passed away, so we'll never know what that letter was all about.
