Jo Spain It already is - in a manner! When researching my first novel With Our Blessing, I researched the background of Magdalene Laundries and Mother & Baby Homes in Ireland. Around the same time I discovered my dad, who'd passed away, was adopted from a Mother & Baby Home in 1955. The Homes and Laundries are infamous in Ireland - a lot of women were forced to give up their babies. I found out that my birth gran fought the nuns for four years before she eventually had to give dad up. I used the history of the Homes and Laundries as a backdrop for my plot in With Our Blessing. It's still a mystery what happened to my gran after she gave up dad. I might revisit that in the future!
Jo Spain I haven't had it yet. But when I'm thinking up a plot or story development, I tend to walk away from the computer and mull it for a while.
Jo Spain Giving to others what you love yourself - a story. Most writers are fanatical readers.
Jo Spain Do it. You will never regret the time you put into writing but you will regret not following your dream. And once you start, finish. Keep going back to it and don't get obsessed with editing what you've already written. Just get it down.
Jo Spain My fifth novel, which is actually number 4 in the Tom Reynolds series. My fourth book is a standalone thriller - but it won't be out until autumn next year!
Jo Spain I have stories in my head all the time. It's more 'how do I find the time to write'! I have four young children and write around their schedules - I write in nearly all of my spare time.
Jo Spain I've been researching psychiatric institutions and am fascinated and terrified by the treatments of patients over the ages. I had a wonderful plot in my head about a doctor and it fitted right in with this backdrop.
