Sometimes a song or an image will give me an idea, or I'll read about an event and do a "what if" scenario in my imagination. Other times I'll literally wake up in the middle of the night with an idea.

Writer's block is tricky, especially if you're working on a deadline (self-imposed or editor-imposed). Sometimes I'll skip ahead in the story, basically bypassing the section that's tripping me up. But I've found the best way to break out of the writer's block rut is to step away from the project that's giving me trouble. BETTER THAN CHOCOLATE started off as an exercise in first person, present tense POV. I posted the first couple chapters on a critiquing site and got some really positive feedback, so I kept going!
