I was thinking about Carina Keel's Father. He died when she was young and she dedicated her life to make him proud. She yearns for his approval. What would happen if she found out that he was in trouble in the afterlife? Would she find a way to help him? How much would she sacrifice along the way to save her father?

I like to create a character, think about their lives, their hopes and fears and then put them in a situation. How will they deal with what i've given them? I feel it's important to write detailed backstories for your characters, even if it doesn't all appear in the book, it helps makes the character feel real. For Carina Keel, I know if she prefers cats or dogs, her most embarrassing moment, the first time she fell in love and the first time she shot her gun. It helps me understand her and how she would react against challenges.

First write a small story and finish it. Just the process of creating something from beginning to end is really eyeopening and teaches you a lot

Creating your own world and bringing life to characters. Once you have been with these characters for a while, you start to really care about them, flaws, warts and all. You can't help but love them, even the bad ones.

I like to put my characters in situations and sometimes get blocked with how they need to get out of the situation. When this happens, before I go to bed I think about how they, as real people would solve the problem I have put them in, and then go to sleep. When I wake up I normally have an answer
