Emma-Nicole Lewis Sorry, it's nothing like visiting George Orwell's repressed society of 1984. It's much more light hearted than that.
I would like to travel to Francine Pascal's Sweet Valley High. Once upon a time I would have wanted to do this and live out my childhood dream to be a cheerleader. Now I would like to just see if Bruce Patman ever bothered to update his 1Bruce1 number plate. Failing that, I'd love to party with The Great Gatsby.
Emma-Nicole Lewis Late summer - but Margaret Atwood's The Testaments is a must! I read The Handmaid's Tale five times thirty years ago and I'm so excited that this is now being released.
Aside from that, there are plenty of ghost stories on my 'to be read' list. Who doesn't love a good, spooky story?...
Emma-Nicole Lewis I already knew the genre was going to be supernatural historical fiction. Witchcraft in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries also really interested me. I arranged a private viewing at a seventeenth century living history village to see if I could find out more. The village is set up as if in 1642, just as civil war was about to break out. It was so interesting finding out from the historians there how people felt and often how parts of the country were torn between parliament and the royalists. I researched the civil war and some well known figures within the war and found a really interesting legend about Prince Rupert of The Rhine and his dog, Boy, being linked to witchcraft. So it all fell really well together and I decided to base the historical part of The Wishing House on the turn of the civil war and weave the whole witchcraft theme in to it.
Emma-Nicole Lewis Visiting new places and taking note of little historical facts about those places - the quirkier the better! I love seeing different villages and the vibrancy of the countryside when I'm out walking my dog. Those are the things that inspire me.
Emma-Nicole Lewis I have started my second novel. It's another supernatural historical fiction novel set in Northern England. The research is in full flow but this is in-between working 4 days a week and being a mum to a very busy and energetic toddler! Research is really important to me as it continues to inspire me, so whilst I've started plotting it and have put fingers to the keyboard, the research is my current area of focus. I hope to get properly stuck in to the novel by Christmas.
Emma-Nicole Lewis Write the very second you get that little gem of inspiration. When you feel inspired and motivated, if you drop everything and just start writing, it tends to all flow out. That's how I kept going with my first novel. I didn't try and write when I wasn't feeling it, I'd do something else.

I would also say that the hardest part is getting the book out there. If you're self publishing, the marketing plan is important to have in place before you launch. I speak as a writer who was too impatient to finish mine and in hindsight, I will be more methodical and patient when it comes to publishing my next novel.
Emma-Nicole Lewis Getting feedback from people who have read my work. It's always so nice to know that I've managed to give somebody a great opportunity to escape for a few hours when they are submerged in my book. That's always rewarding.
Emma-Nicole Lewis I go out for a walk. Looking at the trees, the sky, fields and nature in general helps re-energise the creative flow. Even going out for a drive in the country helps.
