I'm currently working on my new Kindle Vella series "Parker". It's a crime drama/mystery with a dash of action and suspense. It's centered around Lou Parker and her makeshift family at Parker Investigations & Bail Enforcement. They get themselves into a lot of trouble and solve a few cases along the way.

I write to clear my head. If I don't, the stories and ideas bounce around in my mind all night long. So, I guess you could say I'm inspired by my desire to sleep at night.

Blurring the lines between fact and fiction. I enjoy being able to add hints of myself and my own experiences into the stories that I write, especially when the characters and situations would otherwise seem like an implausible fit. When I can do so without the reader having the slightest clue as to where my experiences end and where fiction begins, then I enjoy it all the more.

It hit me in the head. Not quite literally, but one can stretch the imagination to lean that way. As with many of my creative endeavors, my most recent novel came to me in the shower. As water was tapping gently on the top of my head and rolling over my face, my eyes were closed, and I started to see the story unfold in my mind like an already filmed movie that I was editing on-the-fly.

I deal with all creative blocks in a similar way... I change the topic. I distract myself with something else for a short time, clear my head, and then jump straight back into the creative task at hand. Background music often plays a noteworthy part. If that fails, I rest assured that the moment I step into the shower, the ideas will flow faster than the water. The challenge being remembering them all long enough to write them down.
